Google Checkout is becoming Google Wallet on June 26, 2012

Hello,

Last November, we wrote to inform you that Google Checkout was becoming Google Wallet for your customers. Over the past few months, they’ve been introduced to Google Wallet after making purchases and when accessing their accounts at wallet.google.com/manage. However, the buttons on your website and the purchase experience have not yet changed from Checkout to Google Wallet.

What we’ll do automatically for you

On June 26th, we’ll be making the following changes, which will happen automatically:

The Google Checkout button on your site will become a Google Wallet button. Please find some examples below.

The purchase flow will be branded as Google Wallet. There will be no changes to the functionality that you and your buyers are used to.

Emails from Google such as order confirmations will be branded as Google Wallet.

If you use the Google Checkout acceptance logo on your site, it will automatically change to the Google Wallet acceptance logo.

We’re not making any changes to the way you manage your orders. Please continue to sign in at checkout.google.com/sell.

What you need to do

If the Google Checkout button or Google Checkout acceptance logo on your site does not change to Google Wallet on June 26th, you may be using images that are not hosted by Google. Please ensure that you are using the correct URL for Google Wallet buttons or the Google Wallet acceptance logo.

We ask you to please change any Google Checkout brand mentions on your site or support material to Google Wallet on or shortly after June 26th. We’ve included some sample messaging below.

Google Wallet securely stores your payment information and makes purchasing fast both online and in-store.

If you’ve used Google Wallet or Google Checkout before, all you need to do is login with your Google username and password to buy from us.

If you’re using Google Wallet for the first time, just fill out the single page of information when you make your purchase. After that, you’ll only need your Google Wallet login to make a purchase. There’s no need to re-enter your information or create multiple usernames and passwords each time you buy.

When you pay with Google Wallet, you can track all of your orders in one place.

oh great, i knew it was changing for client side, but as for merchant side, this could be a problem, i dont like the current client side version of wallet.

with some people saying Google Wallet would not work with Web hosting I contact the Google Checkout team and got this email

I understand that you want to know if web hosting is accepted by Google Wallet for digital goods (GWDG). Since it is a physical good, web hosting can't be associated with GWDG. Also, since Google Checkout is retiring on November 20, 2013 and we're not accepting new account as of May 20, 2013, I suggest that you contact one of our three solutions provider partner which is Braintree. You can reach them using this number : 1-877-434-2894 , or visit them at their website at support@braintreepayments.com.

i replied to this to say web hosting is a service and not physical goods nd got this back from Google.

I understand that web hosting is a service that allows individuals and organizations to make their website accessible via the World Wide Web. But as per Google, it is a service that is tagged as a physical service.

so it looks like anyone in the hosting industry using GC will need to look for an alternative.Call

For those who will be leaving Google Checkout I'd recommend you take a look at Stripe, they are very friendly, fast, secure and easy to use. Hopefully by GC closure they will have UK support also out of beta.
