take a look at John's guide in the thread below, and if necessary work backwards through that thread at the suggestions posted... i'm sure one of them will work for your setup.

Hi,

Is "www" the user configured to run PHP on your server? If not, this would be why the directory cannot be written to by a PHP script.

 

If you can upload attachments, try making sure the ownership and permissions are the same as the /attachments directory.
