October 2016 Community Wrapup

Recommended Posts

Welcome to the October 2016 community wrapup! A little later than normal this month, the wrapup is a monthly post we'll do to help highlight some of the things happening on the community forums during the month. The wrap-up is a work in progress and we welcome your feedback either in a reply below or you can open a private thread in the Forum Assistance category

Taking a quick look at the stats for the month:

  • During October we saw 257 new members joining the WHMCS Community Forums.
  • We had 354 new threads created during the month and 1,509 posts across the community making October the busiest month on the community for 2016.
  • October 4th was the busiest day on the community with 132 users logging in.

Our top forum picks this month:

  • Disable Feature Highlights
Tengri wanted to know how to remove the Features Highlights on the cart template for the Premium Comparison template, a number of users assisted Tengri to use the right codes to get this removed
  • Allow Smarty PHP tags not Recommended
Web2008 wanted to know a way to use include('./file.php'); in Smarty, a number of users had a discussion about the best way to use these such as ActionHooks or re-writing the tpl file
  • CRON e-mails every 5-minutes
In WHMCS v7, we introduced a brand new Cron Job, part of this introduced some new outputs, theres been some robust discussions around the output! It's something we've taken onboard and changed in V7.1
  • Cron not working after update
A few users were having some issues with ionCube Loaders & their cron post upgrade, this is a great post that helps with troubleshooting in v7.
  • Cron Job: Check for Updates Failed Wolfhound was receiving a message regarding the Automatic Updater in WHMCS version 7, this thread provided some tips and tricks for resolving this issue.

cPanel Module Specified Package Does not Exist

We have become aware of a functional issue in the 7.0.1 release published on Friday October 14th 2016, which affects the cPanel Change Package function in certain circumstances. When a reseller level WHM user is configured on the server details page in WHMCS, a "Specified package does not exist" error is returned when performing the Change Package module command (eg. upgrading or downgrading). Users accessing the server as the root user are not affected.

The Fix for this can be found in this Forum Thread

Version 7 is here!

The biggest event in October was the Launch of WHMCS V7 including the Automatic Updater, Spotlight TLDs and Support for PHP 7 just to name a few.

Check out the Release Blog here and if you're ready to make the jump you can get the upgrade here.
