I had the same problem...

Are you using a customised Admin Template?

Because I was using a custom admin template the "Utilities/Update WHMCS" was not showing on my menu...

My old admin template was based on the "blend" template from whmcs6

So I basically copied all the files from the "admin/templates/blend" folder of the new v7 installation pack (apart from the logo so I kept my own logo) into my "admin/templates/myadmintemplate" folder and then used "Utilities/System/System Cleanup/Empty Template Cache" to clear out the cache - and then the new "Utilities/Update WHMCS" menu item appeared ok.

I was then able to set the Update Channel without any further problems...

Hello,

I'm having the same issue. I located where to fix this but it is telling me that I need to have a path configured for temporary storage of files during updates. Per the suggestions I have made a new folder outside the root directory but when I enter that info, it keeps giving me an error message: The path you entered does not appear to be a valid directory. Please check it and try again. I'm entering my domain name (without http://www.)/newfoldername/ I've tried it with the http as well but still getting same error.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Thanks for your post MarthaA16 when setting your temporary path it must be a full path e.g /home/USERNAME/whmcsupdates

Please try updating your folder path without the domain name and using the full path to the folder to see if this helps.

there is no button to manually back up my database.

http://docs.whmcs.com/Backups#Manual_Database_Backup

To manually download a backup of the WHMCS database at any time:

  1. Login to your WHMCS Admin Area
  2. Go to Utilities > System > Database Status
  3. Click the Download Full Database Backup button at the top of the page
  4. You should be prompted for a file to download. Save the file to your computer. Depending on the database size, this may take a few moments.
  5. Once the download is complete you have now backed up your database.
