Hi Simon;

I don't yet know the answer to your migration pitfalls and timing question from personal experience, but I do know that a MB4 to WHMCS migration will be a hell of a lot easier than MB4 to MB5, and that WHMCS is a far better billing solution than MB5.

Do yourself a BIG favor and stop "seriously looking at WHMCS", and just decide to do it. No matter how complicated the migration does or doesn't turn out to be (which would be no fault of WHMCS), you'll be thrilled at the end.

Seriously. If you're "serious" about doing business rather than fighting a never-ending battle just to achieve basic functionality, this is where you want to be.

Better product. Faster (and more sensible) updates and upgrades. Excellent developer and user-to-user support. Not to mention; it actually works.

Move asap.

We migrated over 10,000 clients from MB4 to WHMCS with very few problems into two installations, one UK £ and one US $. In all we did about 5 test migrations before doing the final move, but most of these were getting used to how WHMCS operates.

Credit card migration captured about 95% of the cards and moved them correctly, although we had noticed that the migration did not migrate "issue" numbers of Maestro cards, although we never reported it as a problem as I only just remembered it

We just migrated from MB to WHMCS and there were a couple of issues (on both sides):

- MB coupon codes don't migrate over.

- Any discounts in MB (based on coupons / special prices) don't seem to come over

- The export of the client_info failed for us (MB issue) and without that you can't import CC info into WHMCS.

We've only been on WHMCS for a few days but we've been a 5 year user of MB and we're very happy so far.

We migrated a brand from MB 4 + Worldpay to WHMCS + Protx and it worked flawlessly with the WHMCS Professional Import service. No trouble at all - perhaps the only issue was that we needed to setup all the products again, but this also allowed us to review the brand's product range and pricing, so it probably worked for the better in the end

I've just looked at our test migration and notice no-ones cc info is there. How do we get around this?

Very smoothly, and when the billing is run, it does not bring the server to its knees.

For the credit card migration, you need to contact WHMCS directly as this is another import script.

We used MBv4 for about 6 months. Don't walk, RUN to WHMCS. Seriously, and perhaps a little more professionally, you'll find WHMCS pretty much does everything the way you'd intuitively expect it to work. I found MBv4 frighteningly deficient, buggy, poor support, and just plain confusing to use. WHMCS is none of these; put simply, you'll love it. It would be nice to heard a report-back from you here after a few months though!

I'm not going to say anything bad about MB until I've fully moved but I do agree with your comments
