Instead of trying to get synchronization to happen between two disparate systems, a simpler solution could be for the authors of WHMCS to write an addon for a SSO system like:

Then get a module/plugin written for Drupal for the same system by someone who knows Drupal really well. The idea here, for your needs, is to centralize the login system by overriding each separate product's built-in login system with another sign-in system. Synchronizing between two distinct login systems is messy.

thanks for that... I had seen that thread and have contacted GoHigherIS, but they are some time away from releasing a Drupal version and currently only focus on joomla (in case anyone is looking for that).
