Lightbulb Warn users not to use free email addresses

Most of us block free email addresses such as Gmail for better security, right? It would be nice if we could toggle on a warning message to users in the checkout process so they wouldn't end up in the fraud cache. Here is what we have done to our viewcart.tpl file so as to help clients properly fill out the order form the first time (see attachment).

    Cheers,
    Rick

Hi friend, with viewcart.tpl loaded in your editor just search for:
    Code:
    clickheretologin}</a>{/if}</p>
and add your code after that.

IMO, you're missing out on a lot of business by blocking free email accounts. I'd estimate more than half our clients use either hotmail, yahoo, or gmail.

There are other ways to protect yourself from fraud, this just seems a bit extreme.

How many people do you really think have nothing other than a free email address? The few times there's been a question raised about it there was a strong scent of fraud in the air. Honest people don't mind using their real email address as one means of identification, especially knowing they can change it once the order is placed.

We use fraud protection methods both within WHMCS and at our processor. Since we implemented the "no free emails during signup" policy earlier this year we've only seen fraud go down, not sales, so it's not at all extreme.

    You bet!

If we could even have this as part of the language files that we could optionally use or not use, that would be much better than mucking about with the templates IMHO.

While I know it's going to vary from business to business there is no doubt that by doing this you're going to miss out on allot of business. I don't understand why a free email address is associated as being high risk.

If we were to implement this change it would result in about 70% loss of potential business.

What would you consider a real email address? The majority of people only have 1 email address that is from a free provider.

UberHost has years of experience allowing free email addresses before upgrading our systems last year. As I stated above we haven't lost out on business, just fraudulent orders which resulted in charge backs. So, I have to ask how you come to that conclusion my friend?

I don't understand why a free email address is associated as being high risk.
Do you think scammers will enter their real email address? Of course not, but honest people will.

If we were to implement this change it would result in about 70% loss of potential business.
May I ask how you arrive at 70%?

Non-free email addresses are what I'd call "real" email addresses. Our anti-fraud system uses a database which is constantly updated and has well over a thousand free email types beyond Yahoo! and Gmail. Do you use anti-fraud protection? If so, there is probably a point of configuration for disallowing free email addresses. If it does not then run away. Fast.

The majority of people only have 1 email address that is from a free provider.
I don't know what region your business comes from, but UberHost's is mostly from the USA, Great Britain, and Canada. In these countries it would be false to make the statement that "the majority have just one email address and it is from a free provider."

Perhaps I am wrong. It is possible that "the majority" of people are logging on to the Internet from the Public Library, but I don't think so.

In any case, this thread is about a feature that some of us would like to see implemented. If you don't want the feature, no worries.

We implemented blocks of various countries and all free email addresses 6 years ago - and business continues to grow, with scammers/spammers largely eliminated

    WRONG 100%

bedfore any can get a free email address, they need internet access from an internet service provider (ISP), either by a broadband connection or dial up connection. in ther UK you have such as Sky,Orange,o2,Virgin + many more, when you sign up to these you are requested to set up an email address, these are called an ISP/Paid email address.

As now a majority of homes will have a computer with internet access then most people will have one of these ISP email addresses
