    I was hoping WHMCS version 5 would have this but it doesn't.

    Can someone help?

    I need to be able to make a conditional statement that says

    {If this is a product renewal}
    Your product needs to be renewed

    {else}
    ...

    {/if}

    What would be the correct syntax to use in place of 'if this is a product renewal'?

    I can't find a list of the possible conditional variables to pick from.

    Thanks,

    Peter

    Yes, I would really appreciate this feature too:

    Something along the lines of ....

    Dear client

    {if new new order}
    Please find below the invoice details for your recent order

    {else if a hosting product renewal }
    Your hosting service is due for renewal

    {/if}

    The solution outlined by Sohouk is great (and daunting to implement, at least for me) but it doesn't negate the need for hosting renewal emails.

    I understand the "Product/Service" nomenclature and generic communications were designed with flexibility in mind, you can sell anything. On the other hand, WHCMS is really geared towards selling hosting.

    I think WHMCS should take the step of having a specific "Hosting" category, like there's a "Domain" category, and implement it across the board: specific emails, specific reports, specific renewal process and reminders, etc.

    Is this implemented?

    If not I am thinking about developing an addon for this.

    Please let me know about the features needed so I can do it.

    I'd go for the bare minimum of being able to send a differentiated hosting renewal email. A "renew hosting" button would also be great.

    I still think this should be implemented in WHMCS, with a specific "hosting" product, and the generic "product/services" category left there for people that sell other things.

    I have to agree on this, more configurable options to the notification emails is a must have.

    You can hack up the invoice created email template in the admin area if you need to do conditionals as it stands but that seems like a problematic solution. i think whmcs needs to reconsider the whole notification system with so many additional services being provided to clients i think that it is entirely possible this area is becoming fast out of touch with the reality of daily business running of a hosting business.

    The notifications is quite often the only point of contact a client will have with the company for months sometimes years, this area should be given the 100% devotion to development it needs. Sure we all want to win new clients but we also want to keep our existing clients and constant requests from clients over confusing emails can only lead to a conclusion that the system that isnt quite right yet.

    When you consider the possibilities.

    Hosting, domains, ssl, dedicated ips, additional resources, website coding and the list goes on then the current area is limited in its capabilities compared with current demand and will in my opinion only fall further behind if it is not updated soon.

    remember also clients will often purchase hosting only, then later purchase some addons as needed, this could be addressed with pro-rata billing for some services, but other services have no such possibility because they can only be charged at point of sale the full amount for the period and this means the billing of these is out of sync with the main billing of the account, so we do need specific email templates for specific services to avoid any confusion.

    I would just also like to make note, we all pay for these services of upgrades to the system overall and i personally feel that responses such as well this already does that and there should be no confusion for this reason and that reason are not only incorrect, but not helpful.

    The fact that we field questions daily on the invoicing/notifications as they currently stands suggests otherwise to your opinion and only the facts of these requests should be taken into consideration and not personal opinions.

    In an ideal world everybody would understand the system and nobody would ever question why, but its not an ideal world so we have to improve the system to try to eliminate the problems.
