Lightbulb Reseller main shared ip / Reseller Ip Delegation

This is a feature that I am quite surprised to have not seen requested, or already implemented.

When a reseller account is created (cpanel), they are automatically added to the main server ip, and no restrictions are set on which ip address's they can use for domain creation.

The auto setup function deems useless in this sense, as the account would be created, the welcome email would be set, than i would have to go back into whm to set ip delegation's and shared ip settings, than send out a new welcome email with the correct newly assigned ip address.

As default a reseller would normally use the main server shared IP - assigning an IP per reseller is quite a waste.

and no restrictions are set on which ip address's they can use for domain creation
Have you defined a reseler acl? This will prevent them from being able to randomly use IP's on the server then without your intervention.

    Are you serious?

We do not assign dedicated IP's to resellers by default. There really is no need unless they request one. A "reseller account" isnt really justification per ARIN guidelines to allocate a dedicated IP address.

If thats the case, then your reseller accounts are considered shared hosting.

Ip address's mean everything when it comes to online marketing, especially email marketing.

You cant even set a ptr record on a domain without a dedicated ip address.

Yes, I am serious. By the book, this is not justification for use of an IP address though, hence the reason that we are rapidly running out of them on IP4! Reseller accounts are shared hosting anway - even if you do assign an IP to a reseller then this is still shared hosting. Whilst there are benefits to having your own IP address for a reseller account, this is not the same as justification and there is no technical requirement for this either.

Most resellers wont need that. You'd be surprised how many of our resellers do not get dedicated IP addresses for the simple reason that they do not need them. (That, and we do not allocate them without proper justification)

The PTR record on all of our shared IP addresses are already set, there is no need for a reseller to have a "custom reverse record." Of course, if they want such a vanity, and want to provide proper justification (Like an SSL certificate), we'll be happy to sell them one.

+1 to this feature request. I would like to see WHMCS be able to first give a new Reseller account a dedicated IP (which it already does) and then assign that IP to the Reseller as a main, shared IP so that all subaccounts shared that IP as well.

I admit that I previously shared a lot of the ideas presented in this thread against assigning IPs willy-nilly. Giving dedicated IPs to Resellers without explicit request or immediate need seems like a sure way to more quickly deplete the IPv4 pool.

Regardless, our company decided to move forward with giving them to new accounts by default. This dramatically decreased the support requests we receive due to Blacklisting and during DDOSs it cuts down on the clients you have to cut off when you NULL route the IP.

Segregation for the purpose of better blacklisting and DDOS mitigation are legitimate reasons for justifying such IP delegation to ARIN.

I'm going to bump this thread, because I would like to see this feature as well.

One thing to keep in mind guys, is that just because a feature exists does not mean you have to use it. This would be a great feature for those who would use it, but if you won't use it - don't worry about it.

I'm fairly certain this is pretty simple to do via the cPanel API.
