Effective May 1st, 2013 WHMCS will have a Long-Term Support Policy. The Long-Term Support (LTS) Policy defines how long we intend to provide Important and Critical updates for published versions of WHMCS.

We encourage you to review the full Policy at http://docs.whmcs.com/Long_Term_Support. In short, we will provide Important and Critical updates for one year after the initial publication of the minor version. You can use the WHMCS Versions & LTS Schedule to see which versions are currently covered by Long-Term Support and when the End-Of-Life date is. The Schedule will be updated to include new minor versions when they are published.

NOTE: The LTS Policy does not introduce any changes to how WHMCS licenses or services are implemented with in the product or on our servers. Your WHMCS installation will continue to function according to the type and status of your license, the same as it has in the past.

WHMCS to Discontinue the Distributor Program

As part of an effort to strengthen customer relationships and narrow our development focus we are discontinuing the Distributor program.

The WHMCS Distributor Program allowed software distributors to offer WHMCS licenses to the general public at discounted prices. As of today, this will no longer be permitted meaning that all WHMCS licenses must be purchased directly from us. This does not affect the reseller program, so you may still find WHMCS licenses bundled with other products/services from third parties, but no legitimate websites other than whmcs.com will be offering WHMCS licenses for sale on a standalone basis.

Eliminating the discounts that distributors were being given, that allowed some users to benefit from the same product at a cheaper price, allows us to invest more into the product development which you will see reflected in the more frequent software releases which we committed to earlier this month alongside the release of our latest update, additional staff and many other goals that we have set ourselves for 2013 & 2014.

If you currently lease a monthly WHMCS License through a Distributor, you will need to cancel your license and move this to WHMCS directly on or before May 1st, 2013. Your distributor should communicate to you with further information on how to go about this. We have also provided all distributors with discount codes to smooth the transition.

If you have purchased an Owned License from a distributor then this will continue unaffected and you don't need to take any action.

All distributors have been fully informed and should be able to provide specific advice on a case by case basis, and our team are also standing by to answer any questions you might have.

Thank you,

Matt Pugh

WHMCS V5.1.5 is now available to download from the client area.

This is an update for the V5.1.x release branch which resolves a problem with external forms linking to the domain checker.

This is a changed files only update which means applying it to your installation is simply a case of downloading the files and uploading them to your WHMCS directory. No install or upgrade process is required.

5.1.5 includes the security patch (V5.1.4) released earlier this week and so the incremental version can be used to upgrade from either V5.1.3 or 5.1.4. For any other 5.1.x version you should use the full package download.

WHMCS V5.2.2 has been released

WHMCS V5.2.2 is now available for all WHMCS license holders to download.

This is a maintenance update to address issues reported in the V5.2.1 release earlier this week.

One of the key additions is additional backwards compatibility for modules and custom pages written for earlier versions. This will mean that custom pages should require *NO* changes to continue functioning exactly as before.

Another point of note is that with the V5.2.1 update, the ResellerClub and all other LogicBoxes based modules were updated to use the new API Key method of integration which is safer and more secure, and so if you are a user of any LogicBoxes based domain registrar module in WHMCS you will need to enter an API Key in the Setup > Domain Registrars page before you can continue using it.

Please also be aware that if you use the live chat addon, an update is required to that for compatability with WHMCS V5.2.x. This update is available to download from our client area also.

This is a changed files only update which means applying it to your installation is a simple case of downloading the files and uploading them to your WHMCS directory. No install or upgrade process is required.
WHOOPS! Sorry everyone. It looks like we caused a few problems with the patches we released earlier today. We are truly sorry for any inconvenience this has caused.

As a result we have re-issued the patches to address all issues reported to us so far, so please head back to the downloads section and re-download and then upload/apply the files to your installation. Again as before, no install or upgrade process is required so long as you aren't changing version number (you can find your current version number in Help > Check for Updates).

We are excited to announce the release of WHMCS Version 5.2. This update contains many exciting new features and improvements, as well as some Important Security Updates (ref: http://blog.whmcs.com/?t=69402)

One of the major highlights of this release is the introduction of Two-Factor Authentication. Both yours and your clients' security is of the utmost importance to us, and the introduction of Two-Factor Authentication support to WHMCS for both staff and clients allows you to add an additional layer of security to the login process. Two-Factor works by taking the password you already use, and combining it with an item which only you have, such as your phone in most cases, which will allow WHMCS to verify it's you and only you logging in to your account.

For a detailed list of changes, please refer to the full Changelog which is available @ http://changelog.whmcs.com/

The update is available to download immediately from our client area, and instructions for how to upgrade can be found in our docs @ http://docs.whmcs.com/Version_5.2_Release_Notes

Stay tuned to our blog over the next few days and weeks for in depth looks at some of the new functionality.

We thank you for choosing WHMCS.

With this beta test, we would also like to introduce a new Beta Mailing List. Users who sign up here will receive information on how to register for Beta access. Additionally, communication will be available between the Beta group and our Development Team for open discussion.
As always, a Beta release is not intended for production use. Beta software may contain bugs and therefore we only recommend participating in the Beta if you are able to run it in a test/development environment, and are comfortable with both experiencing and reporting bugs.
Full release information will be available on 5.2 once it reaches the Release tier.

Our User Interface team is gearing up to deliver you a better shopping cart experience, but we need your help!

We've put together a brief survey to gather data from you, our valued client, to cater this experience not based off what we think it should be - but what you actually need to deliver the best experience to your clients as well as increase sales!

During this process we will be hand selecting participants who wish to be hands on in this optimization process as we collect data, analyze the cart process, and finally introduce and refine new shopping carts to achieve a higher conversion rate.

So, what's brought this change about? Recently, we introduced a new Feature Request system where users can submit their own ideas on how to improve upon WHMCS. One of those ideas called for a complete redesign of the current Order Forms and Shopping Cart experience. Well, you spoke, and we listened.

This survey takes about 12 minutes to complete and all data collected will be completely confidential. Please take a moment to complete our survey to help build a better WHMCS.

Using Nulled WHMCS has some risks associated with it. Ongoing security updates, modified code, and in some cases malware injected into the nulled versions result in the inability to provide security associated reliable hosting.

In many cases we have downloaded and reviewed nulled versions that contained additional call backs that collected secured information such as usernames, passwords, and credit card numbers. Every once in a while we get a ticket from someone that has utilized a nulled version and has a compromised server. When WHMCS is nulled, support is not provided and it is immediately reported to our legal department.

If you are looking for a low cost license to run a legitimate hosting or service based operations the cost of a single license is less than $0.53 USD a day.

WHMCS appreciates small companies that have a limited budget but believes that security and data protection is important to any start up.

If you are a client seeking web hosting and the hosting provider is using WHMCS, we have a few tips to help get you started.

Check out Shameless Hosts. They find and list web hosting providers utilizing nulled WHMCS software.

Another other tool to help located WHMCS nulled software is the WHMCS domain verification tool. This will allow you to enter a domain name and see if the software is licensed. This can help you reduce the risk of doing business with someone that is using illegal nulled WHMCS software.

Regardless if you are a hosting provider or purchasing hosting services, nulled WHMCS software installation pose a threat. The lack of security patches, middle man attacks, and the threat of being closed down all make nulled WHMCS installation a bad idea.

App Store reaches 500 Mark

I recently approved the 500th addon in our App Store, so thought it would be appropriate to take some time to highlight a handful of the highest rated addons and modifications our community has to offer. Since launching the app store back in 2009 these addons alone have been downloaded 15,000 times.

Client Area Homepage

This customisation to the client area homepage template puts a great deal of information right at your client's fingertips as soon as they log in. Displaying the control panel and webmail login buttons makes it easy for clients to access their control panel, see reminders for upcoming domain renewals and customisable welcome messages. It's available for all three templates, including a tabbed style for Default.

Lets Get Social

The built in social tools allow you to display your Twitter feed and have Facebook users comment on announcements, this addon takes it one step further and allows for the management of your company's social media posts from within WHMCS. This is no simple Twitter and Facebook status update tool; one can create pre-defined messages and have them posted automatically.

Translate (Free)

WHMCS is easy to translated into other languages by editing a single file. This addon provides the ability to view language strings side-by-side; so for example compare the English and French versions on one page and sort by a range of criteria allowing you to see any strings which may be missing a translation or easily restore to the default version.

Custom PDF Invoice

If you fancy a change from the standard PDF Invoice and Quotes this template mixes things up. It adds new features including encryption, print-only options and a cut-off remittance slip. The developer has sent a sneak-peak of the latest release, this will change it from a template to a full-blown addon allowing users to customise the appearance and options from the administration area - no template editing required! Here's a cheeky preview:

Admin Upcoming Domain Renewals V4 template

I find this addon useful myself, its beauty is in its simplicity; displayed on the admin homepage is a list of domains due for renewal in the next 90 days (this can be adjusted at will). One can easily check the Expiry and Next Due Dates are set correctly and the appropriate domain registrar is selected before any renewal action occurs.

It's simple to browse the app store, select your desired addon and install it. WHMCS' fine-grained permissions allow you to decide exactly which of your staff can control and configure them. Here's a video guide illustrating how straight forward the process is.

Finally I'd like to thank all the developers who have submitted addons, action hooks, templates and other customizations to our App Store - your contribution has made it the success it is.

Have a great idea for WHMCS?

This week we solved the ever lengthy gap between User and Developer by unveiling our new dynamic Feature Request system.

Previously, Feature Requests for WHMCS were submitted by users through a Forum Category which lacked the ability to really isolate the communities view on a request. For example, if a user submitted a Feature Request, there was no real way to gauge the community's desire or distain for it to be included into WHMCS. Unless every viewing user made a "+1" or similar comment, we could only make guess work out of it.

Take for example the upcoming planned Feature, WHMCSUP (Geared for WHMCS v5.2). With the old system there had been three requests for this in the Feature Request Forum Section with collectively thousands of views - however the WHMCS Development Team is only able to gauge the need for a request by reading each commentary and making an overall assessment. Bottom line, the old system did not allow for proper metrics on what's the most desired request by the most important part of WHMCS - You!

Flash forward to today, and within a couple of days on the New Feature Request system, WHMCSUP has 28 votes, and viewing the positive vs negative is clear and concise. In preparation, we've taken every unique Feature Request from the Forum and imported them into our NEW Feature Request System. We've also created a Single Sign system so everyone that is logged into the Forums would be automatically logged in with their account into the Feature Request System.

Let's take a look at a brief guide for writing a good Feature Request:

Search the current features posted to see if it already exists.

Do any of the the Feature Requests shown in the results fit your idea?

If yes, you can comment on and or vote for that Feature Request with one click.

If no results are found, or none sound like the one you want to post, click the New Feature button.

Create a proper title for the Feature Request!

Good Example: WYSIWYG Editor for templates

Bad Example: ways to change templates.

Write a proper Description of the Feature you're interested in.

Tell us about specific functionality you're looking for (the more details the better).

Down below your description, select the appropriate categories that best describe your proposed Feature.

Using our example Feature Request: WYSIWYG Editor for templates, the categories, User Interface, and Order Forms might apply.

Tag your Feature Request! Tags as you know, make it easier to group similar items and increase search effectiveness over time.

That's it! Click the Post Response button and you're done!

Although Feature Request submissions are not a new concept, we decided to reinvent the wheel.
