What to do when some customers pay in advance?

Some customers are starting to pay for their renewals months before the expiration date.
How do you handle them? Do you create an invoice and cancel them?

We do add as credit and then the system take care of it when it generate the invoice.

or just generate the invoice and apply the payment, make sure to change next due date if you do this.
