I had looked through the demo area, and it looks like once a client has an account they don't have much functionality in the domain area to purchase additional domains or renew their domains. Would they have to place an additional order to do this?
Yes, on the order page, their a link where they can order more domains or another hosting package.

Another question I just realized. Is it possible with this software to support two websites? For instance, I have a main company with a hosting website as part of our additional services we offer. I would live however to have one billing system for both. Is it possible for orders to come in from the hosting website and go to the main site, then after ordering return the user back to the hosting site but return users from the main site back to the main site?
No, this would not be possible. You woud need two installations.

No,
The license agreement which you agree to you when you signup and when you install WHMCS states you may only have one installation per license.
