View Full Version : Shopping Cart feature wanted
Hi,
I am in the middle of deciding which billing software to use for my hosting company. I see that the new versions of WHMAP and ModernBill both sport a shopping cart style interface rather than a predefined Step 1, 2, 3 etc.
Is this something that could be added? as many of my clients want to order several domains with their hosting account (you can still determine which domain should be the main account domain while the others are add-ons or parked) and having a cart system would also encourage impulse buying.
If you can impliment this feature by 2.5 I'd be sold!!
Looking forward to hearing other users comments on this subject.
Matt
I know this is an old post, but figured i would comment on it since the topics is still relevent. Ive been asking for this option as well. i dont think Matt is sold on the idea yet though. Definately not going to be in 2.5
Hey,
I don't really like the idea, if we have it their, cool if not no big worry. Don't forget this is hosting not ebay....

I personally think it may open more options but it removes the basic, easy to use, checkout form.
At the moment the clients "go with the flow" to easily order their basic website package.

Ebay doesnt have a shopping cart......
Also, look at the header of the page, doesnt even mention the word hosting. I dont know about you, but i prefer clients to purchase more than one thing from me, thats not possible to do in a single order at this point. Im not saying to replace single order pages for everyone, I would just like the option.

I think this might be a bit overboard. I don't want to see WHMCS become swamped with too many features that arn't really necessary.
It's not that clients can't order multiple items from you at the moment. They could buy a hosting account, 100 different addons and a domain name in one order with the current system - it's just they can't purchase multiple products and domains in one go. I keep having the arguement put to me that some customers order multiple hosting accounts. I accept this, but how many exactly? I would have said at least 90% of clients who signup just want one hosting account and domain at a time and those who want more should not find it difficult to place more than one order. In my opinion, a cart system complicates the order process for the majority of customers unecessarily.
Matt
Anyway, possibility to register the same domain with 5 different extensions in a "one shot" would be very usefull, since many people want to "secure" their name fast. This would be usefull..

That seems to be more of a feature for specifically a domain registrar. I know I personally don't want my client to have to click a whole bunch of "No thanks" links during the checkout from different offers like this. I believe WHMCS is more geared toward hosting packages specifically, and the domain registration process is in there for an addon-- which makes it so good for many of us.

I still want the shopping cart feature. I really think it can be done without complicating the process.
Bedot says he wants it too. =P
yes, i would like this feature too, as I would like to start offering hardware firewalls, AV solutions etc.. and ideally would prefer not to have to integrate a webshop into an already awesome solutions.
I be no means think this is a "quick edit" and understand this may possibly be a re-working of the core system.. but i think possibly a hugely beneficial one.

I agree... that would be annoying to click "no thanks" all the time, but perhaps at the beginning when choosing a domain (register, transfer, or I'll change my dns) just show a confirmation page (You've chosen to transfer xyz.com) with "next" and "add another domain" options.
After choosing the hosting package, go to a "checkout page" to confirm the order (transfer xyz.com, hosting plan 1, setup, total) with the options to "checkout" where they can pay for what they have so far or "continue shopping" where they can go back to add another domain or hosting package to be put all on one order.
For example, if a customer has 2 websites, with 2 domains each (like a .com and .net for each) and they want to transfer all 4 domains and open 2 separate hosting accounts... rather than transferring one along with one hosting account, then placing another order for the second account and domain, then another 2 orders to transfer the extra domains... ending up with 4 orders and invoices....that seems like an inefficient way to do it :)
And yes, this would be a massive undertaking for Matt - but I'll be patient and would offer all the support I can, which may not be anything more than moral support... You can do it, we believe in you!! ;)
Just my $0.02 worth!

why dont you just offer those as addons, then you dont need a "cart"
why dont you just offer those as addons, then you dont need a "cart"
maybe because domains cant work as addons? Also, that means that every product has to have a base product.

PLEASE do not implement such a system. I have railed on Modernbill for implementing this.
I have *yet* to have a client order two hosting accounts at the same time... its hard enough to get them to order one account... I think a shopping cart type of system just confuses an already confused mind.

Ok this really on my mind.
I am begging you not to mess up the current system, its almost 100% perfect as it is. DO NOT follow Modernbill and WHMAP's lead on this.... just read both of their forums to see how much a shopping cart system is disliked.
Please don't post duplicate feature requests. There is another topic about this somewhere.

I'm surprised to hear shopping carts are disliked. Maybe it's personal preference, but I'd like the ability be able to add/remove products. This gives me the flexibility to add products other than just strict hosting, such as SSL certificates, paid support, etc. Yes, these can be added as addons, but they're addons, not individual products.
Shopping carts are also very familiar to online customers which makes the buying experience more in-tune with what they're used to and would hopefully prevent them from backing away from an order if they were uncomfortable with how the information is displayed (I've got some human factors experience so good, usable UI design is close to my heart).
So I'd like to put in a vote for a shopping cart interface (while keeping the current interface, of course, for those who prefer it).
Thanks,
Tony

I also want the shopping cart feature. We sell a variety of products......hosting,domain names, logo design, print products. A cart that allows adding MULTIPLE ITEMS will make it all tie in together seamlessly.
Has anyone found a cart system that integrates nicely with WHMCS?
WHMCS already has a shopping cart feature.

It's really only half a cart. You can't order multiple products, unless they are pre defined. I would like the customer to be able to choose how many of a product he would like rather than adding to cart 20 times!...and for that to reflect as an itemised product on checkout.
When you add a Products & Services it has a tendency to show FREE!, if the price is not greater than zero.....I think I can configure that in the language file.....and when you reach the check out, if you have Configurable Options set their price is not itemised on the checkout. They just get added into the total.
I understand that WHMCS is geared mainly towards hosting, which I will be using it for... it's cart just needs to be a little more flexible.
You can have alook at my cart at https://host.our-web-host.com/webandprint/web/cart.php to get an idea of what I'm trying to achieve... look at the business card section.
Best part of WHMCS this is. thanks team!!
